Argentine police are investigating the death of 18-year-old Eugenia Carrilavanza and are searching for the driver of a Chevrolet Meriva van who allegedly fled after hitting the young woman. Her body was found this morning in the La Plata suburb of Villa Elvira. According to police sources, a surveillance camera was key to reconstructing the events. The victim had returned from university and was heading home when the incident occurred last night in the area of 3 and 96. Images from the La Plata Municipal Monitoring Center and private circuits allowed investigators to establish the sequence leading up to the impact. 'The image shows the young woman getting off the bus, walking a few blocks, and finally the reckless maneuver that ended in the fatal collision,' an investigator explained. The victim's family had begun a search on social media when she did not return home after 10 p.m. One minute later, at around 10:27 p.m., a van appears in the same sequence, traveling along 96 from 7 towards 1. Upon reaching the intersection with 3rd Street, the vehicle's brake lights are seen to turn on, followed by a sharp swerving maneuver, which investigators believe is when the collision with the victim occurred. The same recording also captured another Chevrolet Meriva traveling in the opposite direction; this footage is now being analyzed to determine if that vehicle is connected to the incident or if its driver could provide testimony as a witness. At the scene, the Scientific Police collected plastic debris dislodged from the vehicle during the impact. These elements will be examined to try to identify the van involved. The case is being handled by prosecutor Martín Almirón of La Plata's 8th Prosecutor's Office, who has ordered various measures to locate the fugitive driver and the implicated vehicle. Investigators continue to work with images from public and private cameras in the area, while not ruling out calling on witnesses who may have information to clarify the incident.
