In Buenos Aires, December 22 (NA) – Two criminals were arrested after stealing 15 million pesos from the inside of a van in the city of La Plata.
The incident occurred at Diagonal 73 and 29, where the thieves took a backpack with the loot belonging to a 50-year-old nurse, while after the illicit act, the perpetrators fled in a Citroën Berlingo van, license plate DLT 769.
According to police sources informed to the Argentine News Agency, officers from the La Plata Patrol Command, along with Motorized and UTOI personnel, managed to spot the vehicle involved, so a chase began that ended on Camino Centenario and street 509, where the arrests of Hugo Orlando Basualdo, 47, and Rodolfo Leonardo Gómez, 46, were made.
While trying to escape on foot, both were subdued a few meters from the scene, while inside the seized vehicle, the backpack with bundles of money was found, which was later confirmed to be the stolen $15 million, and the loot was recovered.
According to the investigation, the victim had withdrawn the hours before from Banco Patagonia, located on Avenida 44 between 26 and 27. In addition, a Xiaomi cell phone, gloves, binoculars, and other items linked to the event were seized.
Both suspects have numerous criminal records, including qualified theft, aggravated concealment, resistance to authority, and even an extortionate kidnapping.
Upon leaving, he noticed that one of the wheels of his van was flat, so he headed to a tire shop located on Diagonal 73 and 29. There, the criminals approached him, pushed him, and broke the vehicle's window to steal the backpack and flee. During the investigation, a metal needle used to puncture the tire and force the victim to stop was seized from the deflated wheel.
The case was handed over to UFIJ No. 2 of the La Plata Judicial Department.
