Man sentenced to four years in prison on false charges acquitted in Argentina

Buenos Aires, November 17 (NA) -- After remaining detained for four years, Francisco Rivera regained his freedom this Monday after being acquitted in an oral trial in which he was accused of participating in a violent aggravated robbery that occurred at a beverage distributor in La Plata in 2019. Judicial sources revealed to the Argentine News Agency that the decision was made by Judge Cecilia Sanucci, after the trial prosecutor, Juan Caniggia, desisted from the accusation due to multiple contradictions in the testimonies. Defense attorney Lautaro Slpizer celebrated the ruling and remarked: "My client, Francisco Rivera, was in prison for four years. Four years in which he lost everything due to a false complaint. Today, justice was done." For Rivera, the acquittal marks the end of a judicial process that kept him deprived of his freedom since 2019 for a crime from which he was finally exonerated. While the crime did occur, he was just "parsley" in the salad. It was proven that the case was fabricated and that the only witness who incriminated him had a long history of false complaints.
