Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof will this Friday meet with mayors aligned with the 'Right to the Future' (MDF) movement amidst internal tensions and demands for a break with kirchnerism from a sector of the mayors, following the peronists' defeat in last Sunday's elections.
Kicillof will once again test his role as an arbitrator within peronism during a meeting to be held in La Plata from 15:00. Mayors who supported him in the showdown with 'La Cámpora' over the split of elections will attend.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the rally is planned as a 'work meeting', but will also serve to order internal tensions within the provincial ruling party after the legislative elections.
Following the election defeat, the idea of 'breaking the gurka style' and distancing themselves from hard kirchnerism has taken hold among some allied mayors, who are dissatisfied with the lack of political recognition and the sector's minimal participation in the lists. 'They should have been given two prominent spots to drag and mobilize,' party sources suggested, pointing to the error of not giving the mayors greater prominence in the slates to achieve more commitment in the national legislative elections.
However, Kicillof does not share this ruptureist impulse: his entourage ensures that the governor will seek to lower the decibels and focus on management. 'The demand for assistance is deepening and we believe that this will not stop.'
