Kim Gómez, a girl murdered during a robbery in La Plata, has taken her parents, Marcos and Florencia, back to the Juvenile Court No. 1 in the city to closely follow the legal process related to the 14-year-old detained involved in the case. In the last hearing, Judge María José Lescano will decide whether the minor will remain in maximum security until reaching adulthood, according to the request of prosecutor Carmen Ibarra.
In this context, Marcos and Florencia expressed their pain and their fight for justice before the present media. Marcos shared in a public statement: "Let Kim be the banner to unite us again. We are failing as a society. Let's change what needs to be changed. I want to send a message to all those who govern us. I am shattered, broken, seeking a purpose to be here and not with my daughter. Let's do something beforehand to avoid reaching this point."
Kim's parents call on politicians and officials to take measures to prevent cases like their daughter's from happening again. Marcos Gómez urges action: "Stop messing around; you are fighting all day. You are messing with our children. Use me as your banner, the link that unites you all, be brave like I am now, stop fighting, let's start doing things right, no more excuses."
In the midst of his pain, Kim's father reflects on the current situation and the need for a change in society and laws: "It’s very hard for me that a kid could have killed my daughter, especially in that way, they destroyed her. We have lost our values. What is needed, to change the laws? I have to go through this and on the street, people still have faith."
Marcos Gómez also shared the shocking experience of confronting the minor in the hearing: "There are many feelings, it’s horrible." The family continues to seek justice and calls for reflection on the importance of preventing situations of violence and improving safety in society.
