The recent case that reignited the debate on insecurity in the Buenos Aires suburbs has caused clashes between the National government and the Province. Following President Javier Milei's criticisms of Governor Axel Kicillof, the Buenos Aires Justicialist Party (PJ) accused the libertarian of using episodes of insecurity in the province for electoral purposes.
In a statement issued by the party's section led by Máximo Kirchner, cooperation from the National government with the province was demanded, along with the return of more than 700 billion pesos that were taken for security. They emphasized that Milei urged Kicillof to resign to intervene in the province, pointing to an "institutional gravity" in his actions.
"If he truly cares about the lives of the people of Buenos Aires, he should start working together with the province today and return the more than 700 billion pesos that he took for security," criticized the PJ, alluding to the elimination of non-automatic transfers by the libertarian.
Additionally, they called for reflection and criticized the electoral use of the pain of the families of the victims. Finally, they requested that officials and legislators cease their violent slogans and dedicate real efforts to the problem of insecurity.
The PJ's statement comes after Milei called for Kicillof's resignation to allow for a national intervention and implement a different security policy, in the wake of the impact caused by the murder of Kim Gómez, a seven-year-old girl during a robbery in La Plata.
