Defender Ramiro Funes Mori has been officially presented as the new player of Estudiantes de La Plata for the 2025 Apertura Tournament, after finishing his second stint at River Plate. The Argentine player signed with the Platense club on a free transfer for one year, with the option to extend his contract for an additional season.
Funes Mori joined Estudiantes after being relegated in Marcelo Gallardo's considerations at River Plate, without playing any official minutes during the year 2025. His signing comes at a time when the club is preparing to compete in the Copa Libertadores, after winning the Liga Cup in 2024.
Estudiantes' coach, Eduardo Domínguez, played an important role in the negotiation by personally communicating with the player and expressing his interest in having him on the team. Domínguez highlighted Funes Mori's qualities and hierarchy, stating that the defender showed willingness to join the club's project.
Ramiro Funes Mori arrives at Estudiantes de La Plata with the aim of regaining his level and becoming a key piece in the team's defense. Throughout his career, the player has won several local titles with River Plate, in addition to the Copa Sudamericana, the 2015 Copa Libertadores, and the 2021 Europa League with Villarreal.
In recent years, Funes Mori has faced playing limitations due to injuries and tactical decisions. His most recent participation in an official match was on October 25, 2024, against Defensa y Justicia, having played only six matches throughout the year, three of them as a starter.
The defender becomes the seventh reinforcement of Estudiantes de La Plata for the season, joining other players such as Cristian Medina, Lucas Alario, Alexis Castro, Facundo Farías, Ezequiel Piovi, and Santiago Núñez in the team led by Juan Sebastián Verón.
