Various paramedics carried out a "sirenazo" in front of the Municipality of La Plata in protest against insecurity after the murder of their colleague nurse during a robbery. Jonatan Calderón, who worked for the company SIPEM, lost his life at the hands of motorcycle thieves last weekend, which has generated shock and anger among his colleagues.
In an act of grief and anger, nurses, paramedics, colleagues, and family members of Calderón gathered with several ambulances at the door of the Municipality to express their discontent. "I have been working for 42 years, I never imagined this disaster," lamented one of the workers during the protest.
Calderón's wake was held on Sunday, where loved ones said their last goodbye. It was reported that he was shot in the back during the robbery and that the criminals took his motorcycle and backpack while fleeing. A colleague of the deceased reported the lack of security in the city, pointing out that even police were waiting at the door of the Municipality during the protest.
As the sirens of the ambulances echoed, a paramedic expressed his dissatisfaction: "We escaped death during the pandemic and everything is taken away from us in a second." The protest aimed to seek dialogue with representatives of the municipality in search of solutions to the insecurity that affects health workers in the area.
