The Single Union of Argentine Tire Workers (SUTNA) has been making its demands peacefully since February 18, when the company announced its closure with a sign. In response, workers set up a camp outside the FATE plant in San Fernando and marched through the streets of La Plata, demonstrating at the provincial legislature. The union and its workers remain organized, promoting a bill and continuing to fight for their jobs and all positions directly or indirectly linked to the company. To raise awareness and attract various communities, they are organizing events such as music concerts, dance shows, and cultural festivals. Games for children are also being held at the camp. The conflict escalated when the company accused the workers of illegally occupying the factory. However, the court has already ruled in favor of the workers, deeming their actions a legitimate defense of their jobs. The national government showed no intention of resolving the conflict. In response to the 'deafness' of Milei's government, the union met with the provincial government this week to present its 'temporary occupation' as a bill. The bill aims to protect the production of truck and bus tires, the only ones manufactured by Fate in the country. The combined number of deputies from these blocks constitutes a majority capable of passing the bill. The union also described how the company has been making frustrated attempts to discredit their struggle, spreading a fraudulent rumor about a radioactive machine at the plant. However, nuclear energy inspectors refuted this false claim. The union also noted that some of the company's suppliers have already gone bankrupt, while others have been forced to close. It is estimated that between three and five thousand families could lose their jobs. The union has also published its agenda for the coming days, including a family dinner and talent show, a cultural festival, a memorial for missing comrades, and a march to the square on the anniversary of the last military coup.
