Justice charged former mayor of La Plata, Julio Garro, on Monday for his alleged participation in an illicit association linked to the illegal authorization of 400 private neighborhoods in the city. Additionally, he faces charges of breach of public official duties, ideological falsehood of public documents, and fraudulent administration to the detriment of the State.

According to the investigation, a scheme was detected in which developers were required to hire a construction company, allegedly owned by officials from Garro's administration, for the urbanization of the neighborhoods. The relationship between the former mayor and his associates with the real estate firm ONE, suspected of selling land from these irregular undertakings, is also being investigated.

The case estimates that the economic damage caused amounts to 700 billion pesos, with a total volume of real estate operations of 1.5 billion dollars. Among the collected evidence are altered documents in municipal records, overpricing in public works, and fund misappropriation in urban planning agreements.

The prosecutor in charge requested search, registration, and confiscation measures to advance the investigation and determine the degree of responsibility of those involved. Justice will continue collecting evidence and new charges are not ruled out within this investigation, which puts the legality of hundreds of real estate developments in the city into question.

In the context of the case, searches are being conducted at various properties and offices linked to former municipal officials and businessmen in the construction sector. Among the searched locations are the offices of the companies Les Baux Obras y Servicios S.A.S., Bordigoni, and Cía.
