A shooting took place near the Eva Perón stadium, where two factions of the Sarmiento fan base clashed, temporarily interrupting the match against Barracas in the ninth round of the 2025 Apertura Tournament. As a result, three people were injured by gunfire.
According to local media, the confrontation between the factions was a conflict that was anticipated. "The two factions of the fan base were going to confront each other sooner rather than later," stated Junín Digital, highlighting the escalation in the power struggle within the fan base. Out of fear of violent episodes, many Sarmiento supporters chose not to attend the game.
The incident took place outside the stadium, where both factions encountered each other and confronted each other with firearms and bladed weapons, with at least 15 shots fired in a matter of minutes. "What was already an open secret happened," emphasized a local media outlet.
Regarding the injuries, it was reported that the victims remain in serious condition. Two of them are believed to be from the fan base, while a third, an innocent bystander, was injured in the leg while waiting to enter the stadium. One of the injured individuals arrived at the hospital on their own, while the other two were transported by ambulance.
The initial hypothesis suggests that two individuals on a motorcycle arrived at the scene, firing from the vehicle. The attack appears to be linked to a dispute over control of the fan base: one dissident faction seeking to take power and another official faction resisting losing it. So far, there are no arrests, and the investigation continues.
In light of the risk of new clashes, local police stations have reinforced security during the night. Despite the interruption of the match due to the shooting, neighbors were not surprised by what happened.
