Central defender Valentín Gómez returned to training at the Olympic Village of Vélez in Ituzaingó after his transfer to Udinese of Serie A in Italy failed. Gómez, originally from San Miguel, attracted the interest of foreign teams and American tycoon Foster Gillett after winning the Professional Football League with Vélez on December 15 after 11 years.
Following Gillett's sudden arrival in Argentina in January in association with Estudiantes de La Plata, Gómez's exit clause with Vélez was executed, but the businessman did not complete the agreed payment, leading to the collapse of the transfer. Thus, the central defender returned to Vélez and rejoined training last Tuesday.
Despite being back at Vélez with a contract valid until December 2026, Gómez intends to emigrate in this transfer market after three frustrated transfer attempts. However, he faces the challenge that few leagues are still open to transfers and any club interested in him will need to make a significant offer to convince the Vélez management to sell him.
