Mining Growth in Río Negro Strengthens the Economy

The Governor of Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck, recently highlighted the growing mining potential of the province, emphasizing that mining projects strengthen the productive matrix and generate skilled employment for the inhabitants of the region. Among these projects, Calcatreu stands out as a leading gold and silver extraction development in the Southern Region, advancing after approval in a public hearing and awaiting the definitive environmental resolution.

"The development of Calcatreu is fundamental to boost the economy of Ingeniero Jacobacci and diversify job opportunities in the area," affirmed Aberastain Oro. He added that the project aligns with the values of transparency and respect for the environment and local communities, following the standards of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) promoted by the provincial government.

The mining diversity of Río Negro includes a wide variety of industrial minerals. The appointment of Aberastain Oro to the board of COFEMIN consolidates the province's commitment to sustainable mining development, highlighting the abundance of mineral resources that position it as a region of great potential.

In the 50th Ordinary Assembly held in Córdoba, Romina Sassarini was appointed president and María Laura Delgado as second vice president. This body acts as an advisor on mining policies for the National Mining Secretariat, representing the 23 provinces of the country.

Río Negro stands out in the production of bentonite, gypsum, diatomite, and salt, demonstrating the richness of its resources and competitiveness in the mining sector at the national level. ALPAT, established in San Antonio Oeste, stands out as the only producer of sodium carbonate in South America, an essential component for the PVC industry and the energy transition associated with the manufacture of lithium batteries.
