SanCor Faces Severe Production Cuts and Layoffs

SanCor reports a drastic drop in milk processing, currently at around 180,000 liters daily. This decline has led to layoffs and financial instability, with claims of $400 million in debt. The company contemplates shifting from a cooperative structure to private control as it struggles to maintain operations amid economic crises.

SanCor Faces Severe Production Cuts and Layoffs

So far in January, the productivity of a renowned dairy company has drastically decreased, processing around 180,000 liters of milk daily. According to internal reports, the company is facing cash flow problems, which have led to defaults on salary payments and to suppliers.

The company, which used to be a symbol in the dairy industry and cooperativism, currently faces a financial debt of $400 million and owes millions to suppliers and services such as electricity. Nearly 500 employees have received layoff notices at the plants in Gálvez, Sunchales, Carlota, and Balnearia, due to what the company has described as "force majeure reasons beyond its control."

At its peak, the cooperative processed around 4 million liters of milk daily. Today, the amount has significantly dropped to about 200,000 liters, leading to the suspension of operations at the La Carlota plant. This decrease in production has created the need to cut personnel across various plants.

It is rumored that the company's management is considering the possibility of ceasing to operate as a cooperative and yielding control to a private investor. With the decline in milk processing, the company has been forced to lay off employees due to the inability to maintain its activity and structures.

According to internal sources within the company, the decision regarding layoffs is based on the lack of available work due to the reduced milk production. It has been mentioned that the management of SanCor is in talks with potential investors to seek solutions to the financial and operational crisis they face.

In the past, SanCor used to process more than 3 million liters of milk daily, but since then it has faced a prolonged crisis, with restructuring and plant closures. The current situation does not seem encouraging, and the company finds itself at a crossroads, deciding between ceasing to function as a cooperative or shutting down its operations.
