Matías Bagnato Remembers Family Tragedy After 30 Years

The only survivor of the "Flower Massacre," Matías Bagnato, recently expressed his feeling of peace when remembering moments lived with his family. In an interview, Matías revealed that Fructuoso Álvarez González, responsible for burning down the house where his family lived in 1994, indirectly blamed him for the crimes that took the lives of his parents, siblings, and a friend.

The incident occurred on February 17, 1994, when Álvarez González set fire to the home due to an alleged unpaid debt. He killed everyone in the house except Matías, who was 16 years old at the time. Since then, Matías has sought justice for the loss of his loved ones and has emphasized the constant presence of his family in his daily life, especially wishing to remember their voices.

Despite being sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995 and later extradited to Spain, Fructuoso Álvarez González continued to affect Matías' life with death threats, which led to his recapture in 2011. However, it was recently reported that Álvarez González died at the age of 63 in prison due to a widespread infection.

Matías Bagnato has stated that, despite the lack of justice from the Argentine judicial system, he feels that there has been divine justice for the victims. He remembers his family fondly and thanks every day for having survived the fire that changed his life forever.
