Life Sentence Confirmed for Police Officer Murder in Chubut

A man convicted of killing a Chubut Provincial Police officer in December 2023 will remain under a life sentence, as ratified by the Esquel Court of Appeals. According to the Argentine News Agency and as indicated by the Chubut Public Prosecutor's Office, the accused, identified as Néstor Gastón Nahuelquir, murdered Adrián Nahuelquir on December 24 in the Blancura area. The incident occurred during a neighborhood meeting known as a “señalada”; as proven during the trial, the attacker approached the victim from behind while he was talking with friends and stabbed him with a large knife with the intent to kill. The defense of the accused sought to challenge the “alevosía” (treacherous and risk-free) charge; they argued that the victim was a police officer and was surrounded by people who could have defended him. This argument was rejected by the judges, who agreed with the prosecution that it was a “sudden” attack that left no room for the tragedy to be avoided. Meanwhile, representatives of the MPF proved the authorship of the act and credited the aggravating factors of treachery and hatred of authority, as the condemned shouted after the attack, “Take it, fucking cop”.
