On December 6th, in El Talar, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, a major meeting of workers and union members was convened by the combative teachers' union SUTEBA Tigre to oppose President Javier Milei's labor reform.
The event, summarized by the phrase "That's why we are here," was not just a gathering but an assembly of shared struggle experiences. Workers coordinated their efforts against mass layoffs, harsh economic austerity, and a labor reform designed to benefit business interests.
Participants from various factories and sectors (Fate, Georgalos, INTI, railway workers, and more) emphasized that their success was built on class solidarity, real coordination, and direct action. They organized "from the bottom up," involving rank-and-file workers, not just official union delegates.
A worker from the Georgalos plant shared a key lesson from their experience: "Those of us without union protection, who aren't delegates, started organizing from below. They wouldn't let us into the factory, so we went on strike. The Ministry of Labor then forced mandatory conciliation. It was only then that the authorities truly listened. We managed to bring the internal commission and the union to debate our problems with the factory's rank-and-file workers."
The meeting concluded with the adoption of concrete resolutions and a plan of action, including protest activities and propaganda campaigns.
