Tragic Death Due to Wildfires in El Bolsón

In El Bolsón, a resident lost his life due to the wildfires affecting the area, as confirmed by the governor of Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck, who expressed his condolences to the deceased's family.

The deceased, identified as Ángel "Don" Reyes, was a beloved inhabitant of Mallín Ahogado in El Bolsón. His tragic death occurred after he decided not to evacuate his home despite evacuation orders issued due to the devastating fires impacting the region.

Reyes, known for his simple life and strong connection to his property, dedicated his life to farming and remained firm in his decision to not leave his home despite the relentless advance of the fire. "This fire cost Don Reyes his life," expressed a neighbor in mourning, apologizing for the lack of action in the face of adversity.

The Municipality of El Bolsón confirmed the tragic news of Reyes' passing and extended condolences to his family. Despite the efforts of emergency teams to persuade him to leave his home, Don Reyes decided to stay on his property, which unfortunately led to his fatal outcome. The community has united in deep mourning for the loss of this valued resident.

The weather conditions with strong winds are complicating firefighting efforts, which have affected an area of 2,723 hectares. Aerial resources are operating in the area conditioned by the weather circumstances, while access to the fire area is restricted. As a preventive measure, a power outage has been established in several localities, and the population is reminded of the prohibition on making outdoor fires to avoid new risks in the affected area. The situation remains challenging, and the local community is working hard to contain and control the spread of the fires.
