Wildfire threatens El Bolsón and causes evacuations

In the area of El Bolsón, located in the province of Río Negro, a forest fire has caused havoc, affecting a total of nearly nine kilometers and 1600 hectares so far. Although local residents were sheltered in a safe area during the fire, aerial resources have been working hard to control the spread of the flames to the east, where Wharton farm is located.

The Public Prosecutor's Office, in collaboration with the Río Negro Police, has launched an investigation to determine the causes that led to this devastating fire. Due to the weather conditions, especially the wind, the fire has spread rapidly, leading to the evacuation of around 300 tourists and volunteers who were in shelters located on the Cajón del Azul trunk road.

Local authorities have reported that a special operation was implemented to safely transfer the evacuated people, allowing the circulation of vehicles on Route N°40 between COEM and Environment. Various teams, such as SPLIF firefighters, firefighters, National Parks, and the National Fire Management System, are working together to contain and extinguish the fire that started last Thursday in Andrapale, passing through Mallín del Medio and reaching El Guadal.

The trunk circuit of Cajón del Azul is one of the most affected sectors by this unfortunate event, which has mobilized different agencies and volunteers in a joint effort to control the situation and protect the lives of people and local wildlife.
