Nissan and Renault Announce Scheduled Shutdown in Córdoba

Production at the Nissan and Renault automotive plant in Argentina will be interrupted again for two weeks, just a few days after resuming operations following a three-week pause in September. This decision is due to a lack of necessary parts for vehicle manufacturing, in contrast to previous interruptions caused by the need to adjust production to market demand.

Vehicle exports from Argentina to Chile have seen a significant decrease, reaching 8,381 units, which represents a drop of 8,154 vehicles compared to the same period last year. The Argentine internal market has also recorded a decline in sales, especially in the segment of pickups produced in Santa Isabel.

The situation reflects the difficult circumstances facing the automotive industry, with a decrease in the production and export of vehicles. In the first nine months of 2024, 1,604 units of the Renault Alaskan have been registered, marking a 39% year-on-year decrease, while the Nissan Frontier has seen its deliveries to the public drop by 46.5%, with a total of 5,179 units sold.

According to the Automotive Manufacturers Association (ADEFA), vehicle production in Argentina reached 49,111 units in September, representing a decrease of 3.9% compared to August and a 12.6% drop compared to the same month last year. So far in 2024, cumulative production has decreased by 22.1% compared to 2023.

Nissan has confirmed that this is a scheduled two-week suspension due to the lack of parts for production, and has indicated that there are likely to be new interruptions until the end of 2024. Meanwhile, Renault has reaffirmed the planned nature of the shutdown at the Santa Isabel plant, located in Córdoba, which is responsible for manufacturing the Nissan Frontier and Renault Alaskan pickups. The company has announced that the truck assembly line will be suspended starting next Monday as part of this scheduled measure.
