Search for Missing Argentine Seniors Intensifies

A month after a retired couple's disappearance in Chubut, searches within a 4 km radius in Comodoro Rivadavia continue. The found pickup truck and discovered items do not clarify the fate of the missing, as police consider everything from an accident to a crime.

Search for Missing Argentine Seniors Intensifies

A month after the disappearance of 79-year-old retiree Pedro Kreder and his 69-year-old wife, Juana Morales, in the province of Chubut, the search has intensified in the city of Comodoro Rivadavia with new sweeps in a 4-kilometer radius.

This case, which has shocked both locals and the rest of the country, remains unanswered after 31 days. The couple was last seen on October 11 when they set off on a weekend trip from Caleta Córdova to the presumed destination of Camarones, where they never arrived.

The mystery deepened on October 17, when rescue teams found Pedro's pickup truck abandoned in a remote and inaccessible area of Rocas Coloradas, a region known for its roads that can only be traversed by highly equipped 4x4 vehicles. Although the vehicle was locked and in good condition, there were no signs of Pedro or Juana inside or in the surroundings.

The truck's bed contained camping items such as a tent, a gas cylinder, and water jugs, all "neatly arranged," according to the family, which rules out forced abandonment or possible looting.

Days later, specialized media revealed to this agency that the hypothesis of "they were swallowed by the clay earth" could not be ruled out. And as strange as it may seem, the terrain where the truck got stuck is clay-like and is almost like a type of quicksand. This surface "absorbs" people, and it is believed that the retirees were "swallowed" after leaving the vehicle to go for help.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Security and Justice of Chubut, Héctor Iturrioz, stated at the end of last month that the hypothesis handled by the authorities is linked to "a crime that went wrong and ended in homicide," even mentioning a possible "armed robbery."

In recent days, the provincial government announced in a statement that the latest search operations were concentrated in Puerto Visser, where land and drone-based aerial work was carried out within a four-kilometer radius. The statement also detailed that police personnel went to the Lamar establishment, where the manager guided the participants to a river mouth, where "various objects that would have been expelled by the water" could be observed.

Following the discovery of these items, two search grids were organized: one group moved south along the coast, and another headed north, simultaneously.
