Buenos Aires Minister Declares Tourism Decline Due to Milei's Policies

Buenos Aires Production Minister Augusto Costa stated that President Milei's policies have led to a decline in tourism, consumption, production, and employment. He reported a 20.7% drop in tourist numbers in Chascomús.

The Minister of Production, Science, and Technological Innovation of the Province of Buenos Aires, Augusto Costa, stated that President Javier Milei's 'adjustment' is being felt in the decline of tourism, consumption, production, and employment. These statements arose during a productive meeting in Chascomús, alongside the Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof, the host mayor Javier Gastón, and the province's Vice Governor Verónica Magario. Members of the Buenos Aires cabinet, other municipal leaders, and representatives of the tourism, commerce, and industry sectors were also present. According to the minister, they 'firsthand' witnessed the impact of the National Government's policies on the real economy, particularly during the summer season. 'Just like last week in Mar de Ajó, the numbers confirm what business owners and workers in the sector have been pointing out: tourist activity is in decline. In Chascomús, tourism fell by 20.7% in the first three weekends of January compared to the 2023 season, affecting employment and the entire local production chain,' Costa said. The Buenos Aires official also noted that while Milei's administration 'turns its back on tourism,' the Province has a governor 'who takes charge.' To conclude, Costa asserted that Kicillof, through his administration, is using 'concrete tools to mitigate the situation, defend employment, and sustain consumption' throughout the Province.
