Teenager Dies in Hospital After Fatal Crash in Chajarí

Buenos Aires, January 8 (NA) — The sole survivor of the brutal and fatal crash in Chajarí, Entre Ríos, in which four of her family members died, has passed away after remaining hospitalized for several days with 95% of her body burned. She was Astrid Raquel Martínez, 17 years old. On Wednesday, authorities at the San Martín Hospital in Paraná confirmed that the teenager died after 48 hours of agony, due to suffering burns over almost her entire body from the accident that occurred this weekend on Route 14 at the access to Chajarí, where her mother, her two sisters, and her uncle died. Local media confirmed that they were traveling from General Roca, in Río Negro, to Misiones on vacation, but just meters from the entrance to the city of Chajarí, the Volkswagen Suran they were traveling in grazed the guardrail, overturned, and caught fire. When police and fire personnel arrived at the scene, they found the charred bodies of Carmen Techeira (44), her daughters Gabriela Liz Martínez (20) and Omaira Ruth Martínez (17), and her brother David Techeira (30). Astrid was the only one who managed to survive, but doctors indicated that her prognosis was very grave as she presented burns on 95% of her body, so her days in the hospital were spent in a coma and on an artificial ventilator, learned the Argentine News Agency. Despite the medical efforts, it was confirmed that the teenager died due to the severity of her health condition.
