Historic Discovery in Misiones: Belgrano's Sword Found

In the province of Misiones, a significant discovery has been made that could have an impact on Argentine history: the presumed finding of a saber that would belong to Manuel Belgrano, Argentine hero and military leader. The news spread through social networks and reached the Directorate of Historical and Cultural Heritage.

The director of this organization, Jorge Ayala, confirmed the possible authenticity of the saber in an interview with the media El Territorio. To corroborate the authenticity of the find, restorer Estela Garma, historian Esteban Snihur, and archaeologist Lorena Salvatelli worked together.

The saber is related to the Belgranian Route in Misiones, which currently encompasses Provincial Route No. 204. This route marks the places visited by Manuel Belgrano from Buenos Aires to his expedition to Paraguay and the province of Misiones in 1810 and 1811. Belgrano's objective was to provide assistance to the Misiones government of Tomás de Rocamora, amidst pressure from the authorities in Asunción, Paraguay.

During his journey, Belgrano and his troops were defeated in Paraguarí and Tacuarí, subsequently returning to the Banda Oriental. The discovery of the presumed saber in Misiones sheds light on the historical importance of this region in the life of the hero and his participation in the events that marked Argentine independence.

The finding took place in Calendaria, where one of the municipalities that forms part of the Belgranian Route is located. The couple from Misiones, Ariel and Marcela, discovered the object at the bottom of their property while undertaking expansion work on their premises. This finding is significant, as during his time in the region in 1810, Manuel Belgrano left various objects that remained hidden until the present.

The importance of the saber found lies in its potential connection to Belgrano's visit to Misiones during his historic expedition, adding a fascinating episode to the trajectory of this illustrious Argentine hero.
