Boca Juniors begins Copa Libertadores campaign against Universidad Católica

Boca Juniors will begin its journey in a new edition of the Copa Libertadores this Tuesday, when it visits Universidad Católica of Chile for the first match of Group D. The match, scheduled for 21:30 (Argentina time), will take place at the San Carlos de Apoquindo Stadium and will be covered live by Agencia Noticias Argentina. It can be watched on Telefe, Fox Sports, and Disney+ Premium. The designated referee was Uruguayan Gustavo Tejera, while his compatriot Christian Ferreyra will be in charge of the VAR. This match marks the beginning of Boca's dream in the Copa Libertadores, a competition they have not won since 2007. After that season, the 'Xeneize' reached the final in 2012, 2018, and 2023, although the scales never tipped in their favor. Additionally, Boca returns to the group stage of the most important tournament in America after three years, as in 2024 they played the Copa Sudamericana and in 2025 they fell in the second phase against Alianza Lima of Peru, which was one of the biggest embarrassments in their history. Ahead of this match, Boca's head coach, Claudio Úbeda, had rested several of his usual starters who played in the 1-0 win against Talleres de Córdoba, so they will arrive quite rested for this Libertadores debut. Universidad Católica, for its part, comes with high hopes after thrashing 6-1 in its last appearance in the Chilean League against Palestino, for the eighth round of the tournament in which it is third with 14 points.
