Independiente's Defender Kevin Lomónaco Transfers to Spanish Real Betis

The defender from Independiente, Kevin Lomónaco, has completed his move to European football by being signed by Real Betis of Spain. According to the Argentine News Agency, the Seville-based club will pay around 10 million euros, to be settled in three installments, to secure the pass of the central defender. Thus, after three seasons with the 'Rojo', the 24-year-old player will join European football, following stints at Lanús, where he was formed, Platense, Tigre, and Red Bull Bragantino from Brazil. Independiente agreed to one of the most important sales in recent years by parting with defender Kevin Lomónaco, a key piece of the current squad who had been called up to the Argentina national team, and selling him to Real Betis. The defender will join the Spanish club's green-and-white team for €9,700,000, a significant amount for a defender who was also not going through his best matches with the 'Rojo'. Lomónaco emerged from Lanús's lower divisions, debuting in 2020 during the Maradona Cup, although he barely had any appearances wearing the 'Granate' jersey. The following year, he was loaned to Platense, where he played 11 matches and scored his first professional goal, playing some matches as a right-back, a position he also played during his youth stage, where he was even called up for the U-17 World Cup. After his loan ended, Lomónaco returned to the 'Granate' and only played six matches until he was transferred: Red Bull Bragantino from Brazil bought him, with only 19 matches as a professional player, for 5 million dollars. In Brazil, he played 20 matches over two seasons, starting in 15 of them, although he was removed from the call-up list in January 2023 and did not play professionally again until September, when he was signed on loan by Tigre. The reason for his surprising absence from the Brazilian club came to light shortly after his debut with the 'Matador': the defender was sanctioned by the FIFA disciplinary tribunal for match-fixing during his time at Bragantino. After returning to the Brazilian club, without being called up by the first team, Independiente became interested in the defender and signed him. It was at the 'Rojo' that the central defender's life changed. As a sanction, he remained ineligible until May 2024. Once the sanction was over, Lomónaco played five more matches with Tigre until the end of his loan.
