Tapia proposes to hold Finalissima in Argentina despite obstacles

AFA president Claudio Tapia plans to host the final between Argentina and Spain at the Monumental stadium. However, the proposal faces issues as AC/DC concerts are scheduled there for the same week. The Argentine side suggests rescheduling the match, while Europe considers an alternative: the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid.

Tapia proposes to hold Finalissima in Argentina despite obstacles

The president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio 'Chiqui' Tapia, plans to propose holding the Finalissima at the Monumental stadium, home of River Plate. However, the stadium will not be available for the entire week. According to the Argentine News Agency, the final between the Argentine and Spanish national teams was originally scheduled for March 27 in Doha, Qatar, but was relocated due to the war currently taking place in the Middle East, with the United States, Israel, and Iran as the main protagonists. With this date, and unless it is changed, Tapia's proposal would be useless, as three concerts by the British-Australian band AC/DC will be held at the Monumental. Claudio Tapia will meet tonight with Alejandro Domínguez, the head of CONMEBOL, with the idea that the Finalissima be held in Argentina, more precisely at the Monumental stadium. As he communicated in a post on his personal X account (formerly Twitter), the decision is joint between the AFA and the aforementioned South American confederation, with both entities believing it to be the 'ideal venue to host this great final'. In any case, the idea will face difficulties to be carried out, as on the very Friday the match would be played, an AC/DC concert will be taking place at the Monumental. In this context, the only way for the South American proposal to come to fruition would be with a rescheduling of both the match and the concerts in question, although both options are complex due to logistical situations. On the other hand, the idea that is presented as the most coherent one comes from Europe, with the idea that the final be held at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, the home of Real Madrid, giving home advantage to the Spanish team. Even so, the regulations indicate that the home condition must alternate in each edition, so the Argentine leadership does not consider playing in Spain valid, as in the 2022 tournament they played at Wembley in England against the Italian team.
