Boca Juniors is advancing in a remodeling plan for La Bombonera that includes the construction of a fourth stand, the installation of 18 elevators, and a series of reforms that will allow for an increase in the stadium's capacity. This project is part of a comprehensive plan driven by the leadership headed by Juan Román Riquelme and aims to expand the capacity of the venue located in the La Boca neighborhood. Fans of the La Ribera team have longed for significant reforms at the venue located at Brandsen 805 for decades, and it seems their wish is closer to coming true than ever, although they will first need the approval of Ferrosur, the company that manages public rails, and the National Transportation Regulation Commission (CNRT), the state body that controls the operation of the railway system. The main modification will be the incorporation of a new lower stand to the three current ones, which will add around 6,000 box seats. If all planned stages are completed, the venue could reach a capacity of nearly 80,000 spectators in the future. The expansion of La Bombonera is part of a broader plan that also includes moving the playing field a few meters towards the tracks, relocating the substitute benches, building a new tunnel for the teams, and eventually installing a 360° roof screen that would cover the entire stadium. With this first stage of the work, the capacity of the Alberto J. Armando stadium would increase from approximately 57,000 to nearly 67,000 spectators, although the complete plan foresees continuing its expansion in later stages. To allow access to this new sector, the project would include the construction of four external towers on the side of the train tracks where 18 elevators will be installed; these structures will connect the accesses with the third and future fourth stands. As mentioned earlier, the work will depend on certain authorizations linked to railway infrastructure, as some columns will be located in the area adjacent to the tracks, so they need to be approved. In addition to the new stand, the plan includes other reforms at the stadium: the definitive removal of seats in sector K to free up space, the expansion of accesses and hallways in Platea L, the creation of new food and beverage areas, and the construction of more boxes, which would increase from the current 86 to nearly 240.
