AFA Considers Extending Football Strike

AFA's secretary general is probing directors about a league-wide strike for three matchdays, potentially disrupting a major 'Clásico' between Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo.

AFA Considers Extending Football Strike

The secretary general of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Cristian Malaspina, has begun to 'sound out' club directors about extending the football strike for two more dates. This was reported by journalist Jonatan Viale on Radio Rivadavia. The idea is to halt the league for matchdays 9, 10, and 11, Viale said. He also added that an unnamed director told him off the record: "It will depend on what the judge does.". Should the strike proceed for matchday 9, it would impact a crucial fixture: the 'Clásico' between Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo at La Bombonera, a match that has not been played since August 18, 2024.
