AFA responds to judicial investigation and suspends football tournament

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) issued a statement in response to a judicial decision to summon its authorities for questioning in a case investigating alleged tax irregularities. In the text, the entity stated that there is no enforceable debt related to the obligations mentioned in the complaint and emphasized that the payments in question were made voluntarily before their due date. The AFA explained that this argument had already been presented to the intervening court and is currently pending a decision from the Court of Appeals. Additionally, it questioned the attitude of the revenue agency ARCA, considering that it is trying to turn non-due obligations—and therefore non-collectible—into the basis of a supposed tax crime, a stance they described as contrary to current regulations. Will matchday 9 be suspended? In parallel, the institution informed that during the meeting of the Professional League's Executive Committee, the leaders unanimously resolved to request the suspension of matchday 9 of the tournament, scheduled between Thursday 5 and Sunday 8 March. The measure would also apply to the rest of the categories of Argentine football. The decision was presented as a sign of repudiation of the complaint promoted by ARCA and as institutional support for the authorities involved, in the midst of a judicial conflict that now has a direct impact on the organization of the local football calendar.
