Buenos Aires, Feb 17 (NA) -- Matches of Independiente and San Lorenzo, among others, scheduled for next Thursday, Feb 19, are at risk of being postponed due to the general strike called by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT). According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), the suspension of the matches would be promoted by the Union of Workers of Sports and Civil Entities (UTEDyC), which is part of the mentioned confederation. Without official information from the Argentine Football Association (AFA), it is expected that the final decision will be made on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb 18, when it is defined if the Labor Reform law is put to a vote or not. In intense days in congress, with the Labor Reform promoted by the National Government of Javier Milei being debated, Argentine football would adhere to the general strike determined by the CGT. As a form of protest against the modifications to the Labor Contract Law that the ruling party is trying to promote, the CGT called for a general strike for this Thursday, the 19th, the day on which the vote should take place in the Chamber of Deputies, after being approved in the senate last Thursday. Thus, on a day when there will be no public transport of any kind, football will be no exception: UTEDyC confirms that, although there are 'circumstances that must be taken into account', if the confederation confirms the strike, they will not work on the organization of the matches, which would have to be rescheduled. The strike will be confirmed on the afternoon of this Wednesday. In the event that the vote is confirmed, there will be a general strike. The matches that could be compromised in the local tournament are four: Defensa y Justicia – Belgrano, San Lorenzo – Estudiantes de Río Cuarto, Instituto – Atlético Tucumán, and Independiente Rivadavia – Independiente. In addition, Lanús should play the first leg of the South American Recopa, as the local team against Brazil's Flamengo. At 14:00, a plenary session will be held between the Labor Legislation Commission and the Budget and Finance Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, in which, once the debate is over, it will be resolved whether the bill is taken to the senate for a vote.
