Boca Juniors had reached an agreement with Estudiantes de La Plata to sign Colombian winger Edwuin Cetré, one of the most impactful players in Argentine football. However, everything was abruptly frozen after a medical examination. According to Argentine News Agency, 'Xeneize' was prepared to pay around 5 million dollars, a proposal that Estudiantes had approved. The medical review, however, revealed an injury to the Colombian, leading Boca to at least temporarily back out of the deal. According to the studies, the injury is linked to a scar from a meniscus operation that Cetré underwent in 2018 when he played for Santos Laguna in Mexico. After learning of this situation, and although Estudiantes insists it does not pose a professional risk for the Colombian, Boca decided to change the terms and offer a loan with an obligation to buy for the agreed amount. While Cetré's move to Boca seems to have practically fallen through, Brazil's Athletico Paranaense, which had first stepped back due to the same injury, has advanced again in pursuit of the Colombian, who is starring in one of the biggest sagas in this transfer window. The frustrated negotiation for Cetré would be the second blow Boca has suffered in negotiations in recent months, as it also failed to secure the other Colombian, Marino Hinestroza. In this transfer window, Boca was only able to close two signings.
