The teams that have qualified for the second stage of the Copa Libertadores are now set, and among them is Argentinos Juniors, who want to return to the group stage of South America's most important club tournament after three years. The 'Bicho', which qualified directly for this stage due to its position in last year's Argentine football table, will not have it easy, as its rival will be Barcelona of Ecuador. Argentinos Juniors' last participation in the Copa Libertadores was in 2023, when they advanced from the group stage but were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Fluminense, who would go on to become champions. The teams that qualified from the first stage are Juventud Las Piedras of Uruguay, who made history by beating Universidad Católica of Ecuador on penalties, as well as Deportivo Táchira of Venezuela and 2 de Mayo of Paraguay, who eliminated The Strongest of Bolivia and Alianza Lima of Peru, respectively. In the next stage, Juventud Las Piedras will face Guaraní of Paraguay, Deportivo Táchira will face Deportes Tolima of Colombia, and 2 de Mayo will face Sporting Cristal of Peru. According to the Argentine News Agency, the other four ties will be as follows: Carabobo (Venezuela) - Huachipato (Chile), Liverpool (Uruguay) - Independiente Medellín (Colombia), O'Higgins (Chile) - Bahía (Brazil), and Nacional Potosí (Bolivia) - Botafogo (Brazil). The second stage ties of the Copa Libertadores will take place in mid-March.
