Chilean tennis player Alejandro Tabilo was the surprise of the day, eliminating Brazilian and defending champion Joao Fonseca (seeded 3rd) to advance to the quarterfinals of the Argentina Open. The match, which lasted 2 hours and 24 minutes, ended with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in favor of Tabilo. The match started perfectly for Tabilo, who quickly broke serve to take a 3-0 lead. Despite Fonseca managing to fight back, Tabilo still won the first set 6-3. In the second set, the Brazilian improved his game and started to dictate play from the baseline, mainly with his powerful forehand. However, Tabilo secured the definitive break in the twelfth game, on his third match point, to win 7-5. According to the Argentine News Agency, Tabilo's next match will be this Friday, when he faces local player Tomas Etcheverry for a place in the semifinals. Fonseca, for his part, continues his free fall in 2026, accumulating two defeats in as many matches (he lost in the first round of the Australian Open).
