Argentinian tennis player Tomás Etcheverry commented on his high level of play over the last few months after a victory that propelled him to the quarter-finals of the Argentina Open. He stated that 'if he continues on this path, his ranking will maintain itself'. According to the Argentine News Agency, Etcheverry, who won a tough match against his compatriot Román Burruchaga that lasted three and a half hours, analyzed his performance at a press conference: 'Last year was difficult on a personal and ranking level, I didn't achieve the goal I had. Trying to restart after the second set becomes an internal battle'. Etcheverry also analyzed his next opponent in the quarter-finals, who will be the winner of the match between defending champion Brazilian João Fonseca and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo: 'They are two very different rivals, so you have to wait for the result and then see. Last year João was very upright, with very powerful shots. Alejandro has a different game from what Fonseca proposes'. Finally, he noted that 'expectations this year are high. You have to go match by match, not rush. One is calm for having given it all'.
