Carabelli wins at Argentina Open

Buenos Aires, February 10 (NA) -- Argentine tennis player Camilo Ugo Carabelli (47th), the sixth seed, secured a straight-set victory over his countryman Francisco Comesaña (63rd) in the first round of the Argentina Open. According to the Argentine News Agency, the recent two-time champion of the Challenger 125 in Rosario won 6-4 and 7-6 (3) after two hours of play. With the win, Camilo Ugo Carabelli extended his winning streak to six, notched his first ATP-level victory of the year, and advanced to the quarterfinals, where he will face the winner between Argentine Mariano Navone (73rd) and American Emilio Nava (81st). The first set was dominated by Ugo Carabelli, as is customary in his matches, as he made the most of his powerful right-hand shots. With two consecutive breaks in the third and fourth games, the match remained somewhat even until the ninth game, where the recent Rosario champion managed to break again to take the set 6-4. At the start of the second set, Ugo Carabelli opened with another break and held the lead for seven games, although Comesaña began to raise his level, which had been riddled with errors during the first set, and managed to break in the eighth game, something he celebrated to the cheers of a public divided between the two Argentines, to tie the match at 4-4. After saving a triple break and a set point against him, Camilo Ugo Carabelli forced a tie-break, in which he lost only three points and won four of his rival's five service points, who was physically worn out, and ended a backhand to seal his defeat.
