River Plate and Parma Reach Agreement Over Luca Scarlato Transfer

Buenos Aires, January 28 (NA) – River Plate and Parma have reached an agreement after the Argentine club warned it would take legal action over the case of Luca Scarlato. After weeks of tension, both institutions signed a deal that includes future economic benefits for the club of Núñez regarding a potential transfer of the youngster. River Plate's management had made its stance clear to European clubs that attempted to sign the player – including Sampdoria, Milan, and Ajax – by warning it would turn to FIFA if Scarlato signed his first professional contract without prior negotiations with his academy club. That warning caused three of the interested parties to back out, while Parma opted to open a line of dialogue, as learned by the Argentine News Agency. Initially, the Italian club offered to recognize only a percentage of the transfer fee as training compensation, which would have meant income for River only in the event of a future sale, as has happened in previous youth transfers. Later, Parma presented a second proposal that included immediate financial compensation, though for a figure under one million euros, which also failed to fully satisfy Núñez's management. Finally, in the last few hours, Monumental officials confirmed a definitive agreement had been reached, although without specifying amounts or percentages. The only official reference was that the agreement recognizes 'future economic benefits in favor of River Plate', thus closing the conflict and avoiding a legal process that would have escalated internationally. Through a statement, River informed: 'In response to the unilateral decision by player Luca Scarlato to leave the Institution, an agreement has been reached with the Italian club Parma Calcio 1913'. In the continuation, it highlighted that the agreement 'allows both clubs to maintain and continue consolidating their historic institutional relationship' and closed by thanking 'the professionalism and respectful treatment' from the Italian entity during the negotiation process.
