Independiente is set to receive very good news ahead of the first matchday of the Apertura Tournament, which kicks off this Thursday with five matches. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), the sanctions on both Uruguayan Rodrigo Fernández Cedrés and Ignacio Malcorra will be lifted, allowing them to play in Friday's match against Estudiantes de La Plata, which is part of the opening round. Both players had been suspended for two matches due to a heated altercation that occurred after the match between Independiente and Rosario Central. Although Malcorra, then playing for Rosario Central, served one match suspension during the playoffs, he still had one game to serve. Fernández Cedrés, on the other hand, was only set to return for the third matchday when Independiente hosts Vélez. However, the Executive Committee of the Professional Football League has accepted an amnesty motion, meaning both Fernández Cedrés and Malcorra could feature this Friday against the current Argentine champions.
Independiente Players' Sanctions Lifted
Argentine club Independiente will be able to field a full-strength team for the Apertura opener. Two key players, Rodrigo Fernández and Ignacio Malcorra, have been pardoned and will be available for the match against Estudiantes.
