The 2026 season will mark a turning point in Formula 1, not only due to the redesign of the cars but also because of a profound change in the engines. According to a report from the Argentine News Agency, the new power units will maintain the hybrid concept with 1.6-liter turbo V6 engines, but with a simpler structure and a much more decisive role for electrical energy, in line with the category's sustainability objectives. One of the central changes will be the increase in electric power, which will go from 120 kW to 350 kW, while the combustion engine will reduce its contribution to around 400 kW. In total, the system will reach about 1,000 horsepower, and in addition, the MGU-H, the component that recovered thermal energy from the turbo, will disappear, which will allow for a reduction in costs and technical complexity. As for the manufacturers, Formula 1 will have five confirmed engine suppliers in 2026: Ferrari, Mercedes, Honda, Audi, and Red Bull Powertrains in partnership with Ford. Audi will debut as an official team after replacing Sauber, while Honda will return exclusively alongside Aston Martin. A new technical scenario that promises to reorder the forces and open a key stage in the future of Formula 1.
