Buenos Aires, Dec 22 (NA) – 12-year-old Argentine chess player Faustino Oro was awarded the 'Olimpia de Plata' on Monday, the highest recognition in Argentine sports, during a ceremony held at the Usina del Arte. According to the Argentine News Agency, the young player, born in San Cristóbal, won the statuette again after his first conquest in 2023. This time, he did so by defeating Sandro Mareco and Ernestina Adam. Oro, who currently holds the title of International Master, will seek to win the Grand Master trophy, the most prestigious recognition in the sport, but he will also try to become the youngest in history to achieve it. To do this, he will have to surpass American Abhimanyu Mishra, who achieved it at just 12 years, 4 months, and 25 days old. Meanwhile, the albiceleste chess player has approximately two and a half months to do so. Initially, it is estimated that Oro will have several high-level tournaments regulated by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) to reach this milestone. However, he must show a high level in each of them.
