San Lorenzo Sets Date for Anticipated Presidential Elections

Buenos Aires, December 22 (NA) — An extraordinary assembly of San Lorenzo began on Monday afternoon with the central objective of defining a transitional Board of Directors and setting a date for anticipated elections. This follows the club's leadership vacuum after the removal of Marcelo Moretti as president.

According to Argentine News Agency, the meeting—initially set for 6 PM and delayed an hour—involves 79 of the 90 accredited assembly members, who voted for anticipated elections to take place on May 30, 2026.

With 44 votes in favor, 34 against, and one abstention, the result was to hold the vote next May, a proposal put forward by Matías Lammens.

Furthermore, with the temporary president to be elected this Monday, there will have been six leaders in one year: Marcelo Moretti, Nestor Navarro, Julio Lopardo, Ulises Morales, and Daniel Matos.

In this context, the options with the most strength are a list headed by Matías Lammens alongside Andrés Terzano, an officialist leader aligned with Moretti, and another led by Sergio Costantino, although a tie scenario is not ruled out.

The assembly is taking place while judicial uncertainty remains, as Moretti has requested a court to declare the leadership void. The agenda also includes formalizing resignations, electing a transitional Board of Directors, and defining the call for extraordinary elections to order the institution's future.

Who are the candidates for San Lorenzo?

Before the nominations of Lammens and Costantino, the main contenders were César Francis with Jorge Ferronato (“Return to San Lorenzo”) and Manuel Agote with Sebastián Pareja (“Move Boedo Move”).

Costantino has been part of the Boards of Directors of both Lammens and Marcelo Tinelli, giving him recognition within the club. He also ran as an official candidate in 2023, and after placing third, he remained as a minority member of the current leadership.

Francis, for his part, will run as an opposition candidate. In recent interactions on X (formerly Twitter), the lawyer called for the resignation of Marcelo Moretti, the former president of the Boedo institution. Like Costantino, he participated in the 2023 elections but finished in last place.

The last candidate is Manuel Agote, who recently filed a complaint with the General Inspection of Justice (IGJ) accusing the former leader and requesting the intervention of the “Cyclone” after a meeting with the Board of Directors, which should have been convened by Moretti himself, did not take place.
