Buenos Aires, December 18 (NA) -- It has been confirmed that the South American Recopa, to be played between Lanús and Brazil's Flamengo, will be held on February 19 and 26. According to the Argentine News Agency, the “Granate” team will be the home team in the first leg on February 19 at 9:30 PM (Argentine time), while the “Mengao” will host the Argentine team on the 26th at the same time. In search of their ninth title in history, Lanús qualified for the Recopa by being the champion of the South American Cup, defeating Atlético Mineiro of Brazil on penalties, while the red and black team coached by Filipe Luis defeated the Brazilian Palmeiras in the Libertadores final. A few months after the return of South American football, CONMEBOL determined the dates for the next South American Recopa. Held since 1989, with Racing as the last champion by defeating the Brazilian Botafogo 4-0 on aggregate, Lanús will play a two-legged series against Flamengo, seeking to lift their fourth international title, which will be their second participation in the Recopa. The first match will be played at the Néstor Díaz Pérez stadium, located in the city of the southern part of the Buenos Aires conurbation, and will take place on Thursday, February 19, starting at 9:30 PM. The return leg will take place at the Maracanã stadium, with Flamengo as the home team on the following Thursday, February 26, and at the same time. Thus, the “Granate” will play the Recopa for the second time in its history, having been runner-up to Atlético Mineiro in the 2014 edition, with a defeat on aggregate by 5-3, after losing 1-0 at home and 4-3 away in a match that went to extra time. On the other hand, the “Mengao” will play it for the third time, with a win in 2020, defeating Independiente del Valle of Ecuador 5-2, while in 2023 the same Ecuadorian team defeated the red and black team 5-4 on penalties.
