Buenos Aires, December 11 (NA) – Driver Agustín Canapino, who on Sunday became the Turismo Carretera champion for the fifth time and equaled the historical record of Oscar Gálvez, offered resonant comments when reviewing his present and his connection with Formula 1.

The Arrecife native recalled his time in IndyCar, where he raced in 2023 with Juncos Hollinger Racing, and described how difficult it was to adapt to an unknown and extremely competitive environment, without internal support or command of the language, as reported by the Argentine News Agency based on his statements on the Despistados program.

Without beating around the bush, Canapino declared: “If I’m two seconds off Lando Norris, I’ll cut my own hand”. A phrase that, between humor and pride, made it clear both the dimension he attributes to the British driver's talent and his own self-demand when imagining himself facing a challenge of that level.

Even so, he assured that that experience “was very tough” but left him with “an enormous learning experience on a personal level”.

In a more relaxed atmosphere, Canapino dared to get into the Alpine simulator of Franco Colapinto, using the Spa-Francorchamps circuit as the setting.

He surprised with an admiring analysis of the young Argentine promise: “I follow Franco and I have a lot of faith in him for next year, as everything changes in Formula 1”. Asked how close he could get to Formula 1 times himself with just three days of practice, Canapino did not hesitate to show his confidence: “I’m up for the challenge against anyone, I’m not going to back down”.

But the most explosive statement came when mentioning the new Formula 1 champion, Lando Norris.
