Boca Juniors coach's future under review after tournament elimination

Buenos Aires, Dec 10 (NA) – Marcelo Delgado, a Boca Juniors executive, stated that the club is "evaluating" whether Claudio Úbeda, the 'Xeneize's' head coach, will remain at the club for the 2026 season, following the elimination by Racing in the semifinals of the 2025 Clausura Tournament. In a radio interview, 'Chelo' referred to the coach's continuity at the club but did not confirm his presence for the next campaign, nor did he rule it out completely. "We are analyzing that, in permanent meetings with the president," he said. Úbeda acknowledged that Zeballos was tired, which backed the head coach's decision, who was heavily criticized by fans after the team's elimination from the national championship. If approved, Úbeda is likely to be joined by an assistant coach. Additionally, Delgado revealed details of his conversation with the coach, who took the position after the death of Miguel Ángel Russo and managed to lead the team to qualify for the next edition of the Copa Libertadores. This was regarding the controversial substitution of Exequiel Zeballos for Alan Velásco during the match against Racing, which ended in a 1-0 defeat. "Sometimes conclusions are drawn with the benefit of hindsight. We are evaluating all things, beyond Claudio's continuity: preparing for the preseason, the issue of reinforcements, players who might leave, more than 20 players returning from loans... We are looking at a lot of things," he acknowledged. According to information gathered by the Argentine News Agency, while nothing is yet definitive, the Boca Board of Directors, led by Juan Román Riquelme, must hold a final meeting with the head coach to finalize his future at the club.
