Independiente football club in Argentina was raided on Monday as part of an investigation into Sur Finanzas. The club denies any operational links, stating the only contact was a donation. The Federal Police also searched AFA headquarters.

Buenos Aires, December 9 (NA) -- Independiente was raided this Monday morning as part of a general case investigating the company Sur Finanzas. The procedure was carried out by judicial order and was related to the collection of documentation. From the institution, they reported that they made all the information available to the Justice from the first moment and emphasized that “there is no nor has there been any commercial agreement, contract or operational and/or financial link with the investigated company”. As they explained to the Argentine News Agency, the only contact with Sur Finanzas was the “receipt of a voluntary donation” destined for a “specific repair in the pension of the Villa Domínico facility”. The club indicated that this donation was made “partially” and that all supporting documentation is already in the possession of the Justice. The Argentine Federal Police (PFA) raided various headquarters of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) in the case related to Sur Finanzas. According to information accessed by the Argentine News Agency, it is 19 raids in different clubs and two AFA headquarters, including Racing, Independiente and San Lorenzo, the Ezeiza headquarters and the Argentine Primera División headquarters. One of the first clubs to speak out on the matter was Excursionistas, which clarified that “on this date, a request for certain documentation was made at our institution within the framework of the judicial investigation involving the company Sur Finanzas”.
