The Argentine rugby team, known as the Pumas, will find out their rivals in the group stage of the 2027 World Cup this week during the draw to be held in Sydney. The ceremony is scheduled for 6 AM (Argentina time) and will be covered live by the Argentine News Agency. The Pumas, coached by Argentine rugby legend Felipe Contepomi, will be in Pot 1 as they are ranked sixth in the world. A key factor in this was their historic comeback against Scotland in a match where they were losing 0-21. This situation will allow them to be seeded in their group and avoid major powers like New Zealand, South Africa, England, and France. The 2027 tournament will be Argentina's eleventh appearance at a Rugby World Cup. In recent decades, the Pumas have established themselves as one of the rugby powers. After advancing from the group stage in only one of the first five editions, they reached the semi-finals in three of the next five (2007, 2015, and 2023), while in 2011 they reached the quarter-finals; their only setback was in 2019, when they were eliminated in the group stage. The other teams in Pot 1 with Argentina will be South Africa, New Zealand, England, Ireland, and France. The top two teams from each pool and the four best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals, after which it will be a direct elimination to determine the new champion. The 2027 Rugby World Cup will feature a new format, with 24 teams participating, divided into six pools of four teams each.
