Buenos Aires, November 25 (NA) – Following elimination in the Clausura 2025 Playoffs by a 3-2 score against Racing, River Plate could part ways with ten players from its professional squad for the upcoming season.
The list is headed by four footballers who were part of the 2018 Copa Libertadores-winning squad, whose contracts will expire: Enzo Pérez, Milton Casco, Ignacio Fernández, and Gonzalo “Pity” Martínez.
Regarding the most anticipated departures, Colombian striker Miguel Ángel Borja will also conclude his contract, and the club has no plans to offer him an extension.
The challenge will be immense and will mark the beginning of a new era for the club.
The list of ten players leaving River: - Enzo Pérez (contract expires - free agent) - Milton Casco (contract expires - free agent) - Ignacio Fernández (contract expires - free agent) - Gonzalo Martínez (contract expires - free agent) - Miguel Borja (contract expires - free agent) - Federico Gattoni (contract expires - returns to Sevilla) - Paulo Díaz (seeking a sale) - Fabricio Bustos (seeking a sale) - Facundo Colidio (seeking a sale) - Sebastián Boselli (seeking a sale)
The only doubt is Giuliano Galoppo, with whom the club will seek to renew his contract. The player will have to return to São Paulo as he did not meet the stipulated objectives in his contract, although River does not rule out starting new negotiations to try and keep him for the next campaign.
Beyond the squad restructuring, the leadership in Núñez acknowledges that 2025 was a year to forget. The board and technical staff consider it essential to rebuild the football foundation and regain lost competitiveness, with the goal of competing for trophies that never arrived in 2025.
Furthermore, defender Paulo Díaz has been placed on the transfer list, so the new leadership of the “Millionaire” will seek to place him at another club in the short term.
The list of departures is completed by Federico Gattoni — who will return to Sevilla FC —, Fabricio Bustos — for sale —, Facundo Colidio — for sale —, and Sebastián Boselli.
On the other hand, midfielder Giuliano Galoppo is the only unknown for the technical staff led by Marcelo Daniel Gallardo.
The absence of titles, an unusual fact for the institution in the last decade, finally accelerated the leadership's decisions.
With this outlook, River is focusing on a profound renewal to try and recompose its image for the next season. The early elimination in the Playoffs, the inconsistency throughout the Clausura, and the lack of responses in key moments exposed a cycle that failed to sustain the expected performance.
