Buenos Aires, November 21 (NA) -- The main leader of Lanús, Nicolás Russo, who is going through his third cycle as president, stated that he considers the new cup received by Rosario Central to be positive, arguing that "football clubs need achievements".
Furthermore, according to what was learned by the Argentine News Agency, the president of "Granate" (Rosario Central) assured he is "totally in agreement" and, although he was not at the Executive Committee meeting of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), he affirmed that it was decided by a vote.
The new trophy received by Central was the "League Championship", inaugurated at noon last Thursday, which awards the club that has accumulated the most points throughout the year.
Hours before facing the final of the South American Cup against Atlético Mineiro of Brazil in Asunción, Paraguay, the president of Lanús, Nicolás Russo, showed his support for the innovative League Championship.
Russo addressed the question about the new trophy by clarifying that he was not at the meeting, as he was already in the Paraguayan capital, but stating that his treasurer, Hernán Lizenberg, was part of it.
"This had to be voted on," Lizenberg would have said, ensuring that it was an election, despite the statement in which Estudiantes confirmed that there was no vote on the delivery of the title.
Justifying his position, Russo stated that both fans, leaders, and clubs live off sporting achievements, "and it is not easy to win in Argentine football," so he values that "each competition allows a club to stand out and win a title".
Additionally, the 65-year-old leader valued that the cup for the best team of the annual table will endure over time and reminisced, commenting that Lanús led the accumulated classification of the 2008/2009 season with a nine-point lead over its main pursuer and did not win either of the two tournaments, concluding that "we had to have some prize".
