Businessman Stéfano Di Carlo has become the new president of River Plate after a landslide victory in the elections held this Saturday at the club in Núñez. In this historic vote, with 25,500 voters participating, Di Carlo, representing 'Filosofía River', obtained 61.77% of the vote, followed by Carlos Trillo (16.22%); Luis Belli (9.68%); Daniel Kiper (8.29%) and Pablo Lunati (4%), the other candidates for the position. The new leadership will take over the club amidst the uncertainty generated by the poor results of the team led by Marcelo Gallardo, which this year was eliminated from the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Argentina, although it still has a chance to compete for the Torneo Clausura of the Professional League. The vice-presidents will be Andrés Ballotta, Ignacio Villarroel and Mariano Taratuty, while the first vocal will be Clara D’Onofrio, daughter of former president Rodolfo D’Onofrio. Furthermore, at 36 years old, he became the youngest president in the history of the institution and ensured the continuity of the ruling party, first led by Rodolfo D’Onofrio and then by Jorge Brito, the current president. Di Carlo will assume his duties next Monday afternoon for a four-year term, in a ceremony to be held in one of the halls of the Monumental stadium. The new head of the 'millionaire' institution is the grandson of Osvaldo Di Carlo, former president of the club between 1989 and 1993, and the great-grandson of Ángel Di Carlo, another historic leader of the entity during the mandate of Antonio Liberti. In turn, Stéfano Di Carlo joined the club's politics through his closeness to D’Onofrio, whom he served as vice president between 2018 and 2021, becoming the youngest director to hold that position, at just 27 years old.
