Closure of Stadiums for 28 Defensores Fans in Buenos Aires

The Subsecretariat of Citizen Security and Public Order of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires issued a resolution prohibiting access and presence in sports stadiums for 28 members of Defensores de Belgrano for a period of 48 months, following an incident that occurred during a Primera Nacional match.

In the confrontation that took place on October 19 at the Juan Pasquale stadium between Defensores de Belgrano and Mitre from Santiago del Estero, a group of supporters of the team attacked police officers in the popular stand. Several officers were injured, some seriously. Additionally, a board member of Defensores de Belgrano was arrested on site for assaulting security personnel and possession of illegal substances.

The disturbances originated when a member of the barra brava refused to identify himself during a Safe Stand control and assaulted a police officer. This act triggered a series of events that culminated in a confrontation in which 14 police officers suffered injuries. As a consequence of these events, it was decided to prohibit the presence of the 28 barras in stadiums for four years.

The Minister of Security of the City, Waldo Wolff, described the measure as exemplary and reiterated his administration's commitment to maintaining a safe environment at sporting events, where violence has no place. In addition to the prohibition of entry to the stadiums, it was determined that Defensores de Belgrano would play three matches behind closed doors, and five barrabravas were arrested during raids carried out in the Federal Capital and Greater Buenos Aires.

This resolution is framed within Law No. 5,847, which regulates security at football events in Buenos Aires and grants the Subsecretariat the authority to implement preventive measures to ensure order in such activities. Ten barras have been charged with injuries in brawls and assault against authority, highlighting the firm stance of the authorities against violence in football.
